Pontins News – May 2026

Britannia Hotels, owner of the Pontins site, has been notoriously tight-lipped about the park’s future since it closed more than two years ago.

In April they broke their silence and gave a statement to news website North Wales Live regarding plans for the closed site at Prestatyn in Wales. The press release referred to all three of the closed parks, including the one here in Camber.

A spokesperson for Britannia Hotels Group said:

Following their closure, we have been undertaking a series of surveys and land assessments for our three vacant Pontins sites to determine what future uses may be viable. As part of this process, we have appointed a planning consultancy to develop pre-planning applications for consideration by the respective local authorities.

These proposals include the potential demolition of the aged chalets and options for their replacement, reflecting evolving guest expectations and the long-term sustainability of the sites. In the meantime, as a gesture of goodwill, we have made all sites available to local emergency services, who have been using them for training exercises while they remain unoccupied.

Our priority is to secure positive long-term outcomes for all sites and we will provide further updates as our plans progress.

Whilst the statement is very non-specific, and is open to various interpretations, it is good to know that something is in the pipeline.

It is early days however and, at April’s Parish Council meeting in Camber, it was confirmed that no pre-planning applications have been submitted to RDC in this regard, so far.
