Each month, we wait with bated breath to find out where the newsletter has been on its travels! This month, the newsletter has been to an academic celebration, a famous palace, and also soaked up some European sun!
The newsletter went to its first Graduation Ceremony! Former Camber resident and CCN Layout Designer, Maria, achieved a 1st Class Honours Degree in Graphic Design at Canterbury Christchurch University. Her Graduation Ceremony was held at Canterbury Cathedral in September, and it was very fitting that she took a copy of CCN with her to the event. Here we see Maria in her Graduation Gown and Mortar Board, holding her scroll and a copy of CCN, outside the cathedral. The CCN team congratulate her on her achievement!

Another incredibly famous English building is Blenheim Palace. Here we can see the newsletter in front of the grand Cotswolds mansion! Built between 1705 and 1722, with financial help from Queen Anne, it is the seat of the Dukes of Marlborough. It was originally named Blenheim Castle after the 1704 Battle of Blenheim and was a reward from the state to the 1st Duke for his bravery in the battle. It was also the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill as his mother went into early labour whilst his parents were visiting relatives there! It was re-named Blenheim Palace in the 19th century and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.

Further afield, the newsletter went to Limone sul Garda – a picturesque cliffside village on the northwestern shore of Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. Limone is famous for its historic buildings, its many olive groves and for its ‘Limonaie’ – a historic, terraced lemon greenhouse built into the cliffs. Franciscan monks first introduced the cultivation of citrus fruit in the Garda region in northern Italy back in the 13th century and it still dominates the area to this day. Here we see the newsletter soakng up the sun!

After that, a threesome of our regular visitors and second home owners sent us photos of CCN visiting the island of Madeira. They each ended up taking a copy of CCN with them, which they then left in various libraries around the island. Hopefully this may entice some of those locals to visit our part of the world one day! Madeira, an autonomous region of Portugal situated in the North Atlantic Ocean off the coast of West Africa, is a popular holiday destination for many Brits. Its capital, Funchal, where roughly half the population lives, can be found situated on the island’s south coast and its main harbour has long been the leading Portuguese port in cruise ship dockings.
The region is noted for its pre-historic laurel forest (classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) as well as its flora and fauna – and, of course, its Madeira wine – immortalised in the darkly comic song “Have some Madeira, m’dear” by the British comedy duo and musicians, Flanders and Swann.

Thank you to everyone who sends in photos!
When you go off on your travels, however near or far flung, please take your copy of CCN with you and snap a picture of it in different places, and then send it in to us at cambernews@hotmail.com. If you have finished reading it by the time you take the picture, why not leave your copy at the destination for someone else to read, and maybe they will also fall in love with Camber!
Happy snapping, Camber folk – we look forward to receiving your pictures!
