Garden Update – October 2026

Hurrah, the rain is back!

The garden and gardeners drew a deep sigh of relief and got on with it. The dormant plants suddenly shot up and a week later and we are all complaining about the weeds.

As usual we learnt lessons on the beach garden and have started restocking with even more resilient plants. The gardening group has scattered seeds in the area, including evening primrose, sea pea, sea kale, and yellow long horned poppies.

We also splashed out on a few established plants including a Verbena Bampton and white valerian. Some of the plants have recovered and are putting on a late summer show, including the gazania, sea thrift, and salvia.

The Queen’s Garden at the Memorial Hall is still sumptuous but the tiny beds around the hall are dusty and a bit sparse. So, we added some more Japanese Anemones to give it height and beauty.

Unfortunately, they are already being parked on – sigh.

If anyone has any plants to donate to the gardens we would love to accept them. You can drop donations at 53 Lydd Rd or at the beach garden – we are usually there on Wednesday afternoons.
