It’s been a long time in the making, but the new toilet block in Central Car Park is finally open for business! It took over a year of planning, and another year to build!
The initial projections were, it seems, a little optimistic, when RDC claimed the block would be open by Easter ’25! With a series of hiccups and obstacles to overcome, we are surprised the Baxall Construction team didn’t have a nervous breakdown!
Hats off to them all, for remaining cheerful and dedicated, despite having to (amongst other things) re-route water supplies and sewer pipes at very short notice! Not a small task!
Alongside the Baxall team, the Coastal Officers and Car Park Team worked hard to keep the busy car park safe for visitors, despite it being a major construction building site with, quite frankly, grotty port-a-loos as the only form of public convenience over a summer with four heatwaves!
It was a bit smelly, at times! Work began on 7th October 2024 and the Official Opening Ceremony took place on 2nd October 2025. Small ‘snagging’ jobs continue, even now – but the block is open for public use.
The Coastal Officers will be moving into their new office over the coming weeks, and the Coastal Operations Team will have a new rest room ready in time for next season.
There is also a First Aid Point, and a new take-away outlet which, hopefully, will be open in time for next year.
