World Braille Day is celebrated internationally on 4th January – the birthday of its creator, Louis Braille, who lost his sight as a result of a childhood accident.
We had plenty of forewarning about Storm Bert but he still hit us hard! As we are about to go to print with the December newsletter, Bert is still raging outside our windows, whistling down our chimneys, and causing the waves at the beach to roar.
It’s amazing to know that CCN has reached its teens – the newsletter is 13 years old this month! It is hard to believe that I have been part of the team for 10 years of that time! A whole decade, dedicated to the Camber Community Newsletter!
With Christmas looming large, I took a look at the many Pagan traditions that have been absorbed by Christianity during this winter festival, such as decorating the inside of our houses with evergreens like pine trees, holly and ivy, or the burning of a ‘yule log’. Another Pagan superstition that continues today is the way we stir the mixture of our traditional Christmas cake.
Recently I had a childhood myth busted (at 71, can you believe!!). All these years of leaving a carrot out for Rudolph, only to discover last month that he can’t eat them.
