We all know the British weather can be changeable but September saw some extremes, from scorching hot sun to monsoon-like downpours!
On the morning of 13th September, the heavy weather came a little bit close to home. During a particular vicious thunder storm, an almighty bang was heard which made most of the village residents (and pets!) jump out of their skin!

As if the Memorial Hall isn’t going through enough challenges right now – it was struck by lightning!
A chunk of the roof fell away onto the car park below. Luckily there was no one in the area at the time and, equally luckily, the hall did not catch fire as so often happens with lightning strikes.
The Acting Chair/Admin, Peter, called upon local roofer, Mark Uffindell, to make the area safe and provide a temporary roof cover to avoid water ingress, minimising any further damage to our lovely hall. Thank you to both for acting so swiftly!
The lightning strike sent an electrical surge through the building, knocking out the electrics and heating controls. Peter, assisted by committee members, got everything up and running the same day, so that the hall could continue opening for the groups and events that use it.
The wi-fi router took a hit but it took almost 2 weeks to get a replacement [Good ol’ BT, huh?]!
Everything has been made safe after the strike and the Memorial Hall committee hope to have the roof repaired soon. Meanwhile, it is business as usual! Well done to everyone who helped!
