Coastal Office News – March 2026

Rother District Council’s small team of Coastal Operations Officers are responsible for approximately 17 miles of coastline between Normans Bay in the west, and Broomhill Sands in the east of which Camber Sands is a significant part, not least for its SSSI status and regional significance as a destination beach loved by residents and visitors alike.

That passion for the environment is very much shared within the Coastal Operations Team, headed up by Sam, the Coastal Operations Manager and Head of Emergency Planning. With 14 years’ service, Sam brings a wealth of operational experience to the role.  Sam is backed up by four Coastal Officers.

With Easter approaching at the beginning of April, the Coastal Operations Team is gearing up for the transition to ‘summer mode’. There is much work to be done in March, including clearing the car park of the winter sand, getting the car park ready for the new season, and moving into the new office in the Welcome Centre.

Join the Team! Recruitment is open for seasonal roles for Summer 2026 with start dates from Easter. The Camber Welcome Assistants and Beach Patrol staff are a vital part of the summer operation, ensuring the safety of beach users and enhancing the visitor experience.

In exchange for commitment, reliability and excellent customer service skills we offer flexible hours, uniform, full training and the chance to work in a beautiful environment. For more information contact coastal@rother.gov.uk.
