Once again, Camber (and Rye) graced our TV screens on 18th December and again on Boxing Day in Dame Mary Berry’s Christmas special Mary Makes Christmas. Mary was joined by TV favourite Amanda Holden, Strictly dancer Oti Mabuse and radio DJ Nick Grimshaw to create delicious gifts for family and friends.
On our beloved beach, we see Mary and Oti whip up fresh almond snowballs to share with a group of open water swimmers that brave the cold sea for their traditional Christmas dip.
Mary invites Amanda to join her at the Mermaid Inn in Rye to make boozy apricots in brandy and a rich stilton dip – both perfect for gifting – before Amanda whisks Mary off to St Mary’s Church for some festive singing.
Finally, the show ends at the RNLI boathouse in Rye Harbour, where Mary and Nick Grimshaw roll up their sleeves and get stuck into making ginger flapjacks to share with the volunteers and their family and friends at the annual RNLI Christmas carols celebration.
If you missed it, Mary Makes Christmas is still available to watch on BBC iPlayer. You can also find all the recipes featured in the episode here – https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/programmes/m00263ml.
