Full Moon – Supermoon – Partial Lunar Eclipse

The September full moon, known as the Harvest Moon, was also a Supermoon. This happens when the moon is closest to the Earth, making it appear bigger and brighter than a standard full moon. September’s full moon, however, was also subject to a partial lunar eclipse.

A lunar eclipse happens when the Earth moves between the sun and the moon and the light of the sun on the moon is blocked. The darkened part of the moon remains in shadow, whilst the rest remains bright, creating a striking visual contrast. The partial lunar eclipse was visible at about 3.45am on 18th September. A real triple treat!
