As part of the Camber Sands Welcome Centre project, Rother District Council secured funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to hold two days of free events in Camber that explore local habitats, wildlife, dune management and care.
Rother District Council and lead consultants DK-CM held a series of workshops on the 10th and 11th July 2024.
DK-CM are an architecture practice working with Rother District Council on a deep refurbishment and extension to the public conveniences and coastal offices in Camber Central Car Park. The fully funded project has successfully been awarded planning permission and is planned to start on site in October 2024. The aim of the workshops was to deliver a community legacy and raise awareness of the newly built Welcome Centre. Information collated from the workshops will be displayed on the new building to raise visitor awareness about the delicate wildlife and landscape of the dunes. DK-CM hosted five workshops with Rother District Council and local ecology experts:
- Wednesday 10th July: local habitats and wildlife workshops focused on investigating, collecting and recording local plants, insects and other wildlife:
- Exploratory walk Christ Church CE Primary and Nursery Academy with Dr Barry Yates
- Exploratory walk with Peasmarsh Primary School with Lucy Bowyer
- Guided walk and workshop at the Memorial Hall, led by Dr Barry Yates and open to all
- Thursday 11th July: dune management and care workshops focused on investigating the dunes and understanding how to maintain them.
- Guided walk and workshop at the Memorial Hall, led by Annie Brown and open to all
- Workshop with the Camber Community Garden Group and friends at the Memorial Hall with Chris Bentley
The groups had a great time exploring the dune environments and learning new things from local experts Dr Barry Yates, Lucy Bowyer, Annie Brown and Chris Bentley and the Camber Community Gardeners. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part.
More information and results from the workshop to come in the October edition!
