As part of our new food waste collections service commencing in March this year, Rother District Council, Hastings Borough Council and Wealden District council launched a program to educate children about the need and value of food recycling.
This included a naming competition for local schools challenging them to come up with clever names for the twenty new food waste vehicles in their fleet. On hearing this, CCG experienced a distinct feeling of déjà vu – recalling our article a year ago in February 2025’s CCN about the Gritter Trucks!
Twenty names were short listed, and the public were invited to vote for their favourite with the winning school set to receive a visit from Biffa and their winning newly labelled food waste truck!
The winning school was Pevensey and Westham Primary School with their innovative name of “William the Composter”. A big congratulations to them!
The other names short listed were, in no particular order:
- SpongeBob Scrapants
- Sir-eats-a-lot
- The Very Hungry Caddy-Filler
- Peels on Wheels
- The Hungry Helper
- Bin Appetit
- Food Snapper
- Wasty Warrior
- Lettuce Recycle
- Leftover Larry
- The Bincredible Bulk
- The Compost Crusader
- Lord of the Bins
- Trashasaurus Rex
- Compost Kevin
- Peelinator
- Food Dude
- Rubbishaurus Rex
- Garbage Goblin
These nineteen names added onto the remaining waste collection vehicles – so watch out for who comes to visit in Camber towards the end of March an onwards!
