On Sunday 7th September, the UK was fortunate enough to be in the viewing line for a total eclipse of a full moon! It is rare to see both together!
However, what was supposed to be a stunning spectacle, turned out to be a damp squib! The full moon was expected to peak moments before it broke the horizon, with the full eclipse taking place just a few minutes later. Loads of people climbed the dunes for a good view but, sadly, the cloud cover was so thick, that no one saw it!
During an eclipse, as the moon passes through the Earth’s shadow, it takes on a red hue, giving it the name, “Blood Moon”. Whilst we weren’t lucky enough to see the eclipse itself, the cloud cleared a couple of hours later and the (uneclipsed) full moon was visible over the village and beach, showing off its orangey colour!

A local resident has sent us a picture of the full moon rising after the eclipse. We are sure you will agree, it looks stunning!
