Garden Update – October 2024

It’s been a good year for the… sunflowers!

As the 1970s ballad goes, “It’s been a good year for the roses…” and, indeed, it has. With all the rainfall we have had in Camber, all the flora seems to be thriving! The Cordylines and Yuccas have produced fine blooms, right the way through until September, and the Common Ragwort (as featured in last month’s newsletter) has had a field day – quite literally – taking over Johnson’s Field and the base of the dunes.

Something else that has done particularly well in Camber, this season, is the sunflower! These cheery, sunny blooms always seem to make people happy when wandering past them. The sunflowers have been reaching great heights all around the village. Most have grown well over 6 feet, with some even towering several feet above a standard 6-foot fence! There were a few little ones – perhaps a dwarf variety – that didn’t get quite so lofty, but they were still bright and beautiful!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to plant sunflowers this year, helping to make our village a happy place to be!
