Hello fellow gardeners. Hopefully you have seen the start of the new Community Beach Garden on Central Car Park. After its demolition to make way for the Welcome Centre a few years ago, the gardening group has waited patiently for Rother DC to restore the area.
We are extremely grateful to Joel, Olly and Ian of the Coastal Officer team for their exceptionally hard work and creativity in restoring our Beach Garden. They sourced, cleaned up and designed the beautiful pieces of driftwood used to make the terraces, artwork structure and fence at the bottom of the garden as well as adding a proper gated access.
They shovelled 4 tons of soil into the terraces this week, ready for us to start the replanting. The structure in the middle terrace was a late request, and all we gave them was a photo of roughly what we wanted – they did all the rest!
Plus, their request for the gabions and the “Welcome to Camber” sign have now been added with assistance from the RDC Maintenance Team. We are truly lucky to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic group – willingly promoting Camber – in our midst!

The gardening group has started the process of transplanting the old, rescued plants and will be looking for fresh shrubs, etc., as the weather improves. This time we have also been given an extra bit of space by the new showers.
This will be designated for indigenous plants only; mainly grasses we think at this stage. The group doesn’t have a regular pattern to meet, as it’s very weather dependent, but if you would like to join us, we usually arrange things through the group’s Whatsapp Chat – you can let us know in person, email camber.news@hotmail.com or phone us on 227176.
