As the old saying goes – you can’t make an omelette without breaking an egg! At least we hope our new beach carpark garden will be worth the mess it is in now.
We have previously reported that the retaining walls on the footpath were collapsing so Rother DC advised us not to garden there this year. We have worked with the contractors and project management of the new Welcome Centre to help demolish the existing garden and rescue as many plants and decorations as possible.
Rother DC have set aside an amount for landscaping of the Welcome Centre, which is intended to help restock the community garden once the retaining walls are back in place and to help with biodiversity considerations. The plan is to combine the works with a new retaining wall and associated landscaping works. The drawings even include water recycling storage (a barrel?) to help with our watering problems.
The gardening group are looking forward to the new challenge and will be back in action next year.
