Castle News – February 2025

It’s been a busy couple of months at The Castle!

At the beginning of December, Castle-goers were treated to a comedy music duo, ‘The King Elvises – 70s Roadshow’. The show featured lots of Elvis hits alongside plenty of antics, some of which were a little on the ‘rude’ side, and lots of audience participation. We even saw our own Parish Council Chairman (off duty, of course) galloping round the room in an Elvis costume and a feather duster between his knees! The bar was packed and everyone enjoyed the shenanigans – but it definitely wasn’t for the fainthearted! In mid-December, ever-popular reggae singer, Ritchie Campbell, returned – this time playing as part of the regular Sunday Funday Vibes, with the Specials Board drinks price list between 2.00pm and 5.00pm.

Christmas was a lively time at The Castle as the bar filled up on Christmas Day. It was great to see so many locals there, sharing each other’s company at that special time of year. There was a great buzz of conversation and good cheer as Christmas music played in the background. The main event for December, though, was the New Year’s Eve party! It was a ticket-only event and the tickets sold out within a couple of days of going on sale. Both bars were full with revellers who had all braved the awful weather to get there and, between them, created an incredible atmosphere of friendship, love and hope for the year to come. There was plenty of dancing, with Jay providing the sounds for the night – plus lots of hugging and well-wishing at midnight after a raucous countdown towards the chimes of Big Ben, which were played over the PA system. It showed, once again, what a wonderful community we live in!

Early January saw the return of ‘Elvis – A Tribute to the King’ as part of the run of Sunday Funday Vibes afternoons. Ever popular, it was another great sing-along afternoon as everyone enjoyed the iconic songs of Elvis and the energetic performance of Andy T. King. Later in the month, CCG held another Prize Bingo night in support of Camber Community Newsletter. There was a Scottish twist to many of the prizes with it being so close to Burns Night.
